First-Year Experience Program (FYE) :
The First-Year Experience Program (FYE) is designed by the Division of Student Affairs to facilitate a smooth and successful transition for students into college life and learning while aligning with the university’s core mission and values. The FYE encompasses a diverse range of elements, including two 1-credit seminars, mentoring services, one-to-one consultations, and a variety of co-curricular events and programs aimed at enhancing the student’s campus experience.
The FYE journey begins with a mandatory comprehensive orientation program meticulously crafted to acquaint incoming students with the vibrant AUI community. This orientation blends educational and recreational activities with the goal of nurturing a sense of belonging and connection.
New Student Orientation (NSO) :
Once they complete their enrollment, first-semester undergraduate and graduate students must attend orientation sessions held before the first day of classes. The New Student Orientation (NSO) introduces the new cohort to different aspects of campus and academic life, ranging from campus facilities and services to academics. NSO usually lasts for a week and new students are assigned a mentor, given an institutional e-mail account, and provided with instructions for course registration procedures.
First-Year Seminars :
Throughout their first year ideally, undergraduate students will enroll in a Pass/Fail, one-credit Seminar (FYE 1101 during the first semester and FYE 1102 during the second one). The FYE Seminars consist of a series of informative forums developed through collaboration between the Division of Student Affairs and Academic Affairs. Incoming students will be charged 2,500 MAD to cover orientation and program fees. Additionally, they will pay 2,100 MAD for each of the one-credit Seminars.
Peer Mentoring :
At the beginning of their first semester, each student is assigned a peer Mentor. The students meet with their Mentors throughout the semester to share their concerns, seek advice, and to learn several mechanisms to adjust to AUI. The Mentors are responsible for providing accurate information to the students to orient them towards the appropriate entity or to help them succeed physically and emotionally in their education. Mentors are instructed to follow a Mentoring Program. The experience they have gained by being at Al Akhawayn University is priceless; hence, we want them to share as much as possible with their schoolmates through Mentoring Services.
Co-curricular events :
To ease students’ transition from high school to college, the FYE Program tries to organize a variety of co-curricular events, including skill-building workshops, knowledge and sports competitions, cultural trips, and fun trivia nights.
